Disney, the global entertainment juggernaut, recently announced that they have purchased Lucasfilm Ltd, and the rights to the Star Wars franchise. George Lucas states that he wanted the legacy to live on after he was gone, and felt that the transition to Disney ownership was a perfect fit. The transaction was completed for a reported $4 billion.
At the press conference, Disney also reported that production will begin soon for the 7th episode of the Star Wars series, and is set to be released in 2015. No details on the plot were offered. Disney said they hope to release a new Star Wars movie every 2-3 years.
