Smartphone case company Cellhelmet promises to repair any broken iphones to users of their product. Their cases come with accidental damage coverage, enabling the repair. All things though are too good to be true.
A look at the small print shows the following: “The following is not covered: water damage, manufacturer defects and faulty operating systems. Personalized data such as contact lists, photos, video and music downloads. Customized software, such as personal information, screen savers and software applications. It is the responsibility of the customer to backup all information prior to submitting for repair.” This in short requires a $50 handling fee as well. Also the only Iphones that will be covered are the Iphone 4 or 4s. Even though Cellhelmet makes cases for the fifth model, it still does not apply. The cases in question run around $50, so depending on how accident prone someone is, this could be beneficial.
Does anyone else feel that this is a bit shady? The way it is displayed makes it seem like the PERFECT offer. For someone who is truly accident prone, this could be a benefit I suppose. I’ve seen plenty of people with phones cracked that could not afford to replace it. For someone that simply wants a new phone though, Cellhelmet is pretty much privy to the tactics.
