A Pennsylvanian newspaper called The Mercury began using Pinterest as a form of criminal awareness and capture system. Mug shots were put up on the popular site of criminals of all sorts in the Pottstown Pa. area and surrounding regions. At this point more than 74 pictures have been posted and police recieved tips almost instantly. As stated by a police associate, “We’ve actually seen a 57% increase in our warrant services, and we actually got more people based on our tips and our calls. For us it’s like, ‘Yes,’ because it’s very enjoyable in police work when the public helps you.” It always interest to see how new media can make a valuable difference on matters it was never intended for.
