RIM students and faculty were excited to hear that the music industry made it’s first annual revenue growth in over 10 years. Universal Music Group and Samsung will be teaming up to make this a trend for years to come.
With digital sales becoming one of the largest sources of income for record companies, Universal and Samsung have created The Kleek. The Kleek is a digital music service that caters to Africa.
One of the problems foreseen by the industry is Africa’s lack of copyright law or music-lecensing structure. On the other hand, there is also a lack of piracy.
70% of Africa’s music repertoire is “local” artists. The Kleek will help expand the market for these artists and bring more music sales.
