Yoko Ono & Gun Violence In America

I would assume that you would have to be living under a rock, if you didn’t know who Yoko Ono was. Ono, is the widow of the legendary John Lennon, who was a member of the Beetles and had a successful solo career. In 1980 Lennon was shot four times in the back by Mark David Chapman; Chapman was mentally unstable, having delusions about Lennon.

On what would have been Ono’s and Lennon’s 44th wedding anniversary, Ono tweeted a pic of Lennon’s bloody glasses. Ono, then sent out 4 tweets, which are addressing gun violence in America. As we all know, since the Massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, gun control has been a heavily contested battle for both sides.

Here are the four tweets by Ono

  • “Over 1,057,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on 8 Dec 1980.”
  • “31,537 people are killed by guns in the USA every year. We are turning this beautiful country into war zone.”
  • “Together, let’s bring back America, the green land of peace.”
  • “The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience. After 33 years our son Sean and I still miss him. Yoko Ono Lennon”
