Aiming a laser pointer at a plane gets you 2.5 years in prison

A 19-year-old named Adam Gardenhire in North Hollywood aimed a laser pointer at a landing plane and was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison.

He pleaded guilty to one of two offenses. The charge was pressed after the beam struck the eye of a pilot and temporarily blinded him. The judge gave a much larger penalty than the airline hoped, but the judge wanted to make sure that people understood the seriousness of the offense. The defendant is hoping to avoid prision after an appeal.
